The Digital Vignette in 3 Simple Steps

1. Identify Your Route

First, determine if your planned route includes tolled motorways. Most major highways, especially the D5 through West Bohemia, require a valid digital vignette.

2. Choose a Validity Period

Select a vignette for 10 days, 30 days, or a full year (365 days) based on the length of your stay and travel plans. The validity starts on your chosen date.

3. Register Your License Plate

The purchase is tied directly to your vehicle's license plate. No physical sticker is needed! Your registration is stored in the national electronic system.

Choose the Right Vignette for Your Trip

Driving an Eco-Friendly Vehicle?

Electric, hydrogen, or certain plug-in hybrid vehicles (CO2 emissions up to 50 g/km) may be exempt from the vignette fee. However, these vehicles must be registered for the exemption via the official portal to avoid fines. Always verify your vehicle's eligibility before traveling.

Where to Officially Purchase Your Vignette

The fastest and most recommended method. Purchase from anywhere before you travel using a payment card. The official portal is edalnice.cz.

Key Tolled Roads in West Bohemia

The most significant tolled motorway in our region is the D5, connecting Prague, Plzeň, and the German border. A vignette is mandatory for nearly its entire length. This map shows the D5 and other key tolled routes. Our office is conveniently located in Plzeň, a major city along this corridor, to assist travelers.

Common Questions About Czech Vignettes

No, the system is 100% digital. Control is performed automatically by cameras scanning your license plate. You will receive an email confirmation of your purchase, which you should keep as proof.
Driving on a tolled motorway without a valid digital vignette can result in a significant on-the-spot fine of up to 5,000 CZK, or up to 20,000 CZK in administrative proceedings.
It depends. Cars rented within the Czech Republic often have a valid annual vignette. However, you must confirm this with your rental company. For cars rented abroad, you will almost certainly need to purchase one.
You can correct up to two characters in your license plate number or change the country of registration on the official portal, but only before the vignette's validity begins. It is crucial to double-check your details during purchase.
